Parents about donor eggs
How do parents come to the need to use a donor egg? How do children born with the help of a donor turn out? We bring you the story of the family of Mila and Ivan, who used a donor egg to give birth to their second child.
Mila's second child and donor eggs
Mila has heart disease , with which doctors strongly discouraged her from getting pregnant and giving birth. It could have been life-threatening. Mila and her husband Ivan really wanted to become parents. Therefore, they needed the help of reproductive specialists. Four years ago, they had a son, who was conceived using their biomaterials and carried by a surrogate mother. And last year, this happy family grew larger: thanks to an egg donor and a surrogate mother, their daughter Lisa was born. Now there are four of them in the family: they thank the donor, doctors and surrogate mothers for their cute children!
Decision to use an egg donorHeart problems affected not only the inability to get pregnant and give birth, but even the process of retrieving her eggs. The puncture took place under the strict supervision of doctors, with medical equipment and specialists ready in case the condition worsened. The extracted eggs became viable embryos, and as a result, a wonderful guy was born! When he was six months old, his parents began to prepare for their second baby. They transferred their last remaining embryo to the surrogate mother, but the pregnancy did not occur. Then, after consulting with reproductive specialists, they decided to use a donor egg.
Will I love this child?
When doctors say that the only the chance is a donor egg, it can be hard at first. Doubts, rejection, and various anxieties arise. But over time, it becomes clear what incredible luck it is, that the problem can be solved in this way, that there is a way.
For those parents who already have a biological child, this method of having a second baby can raise even more doubts. Will I love my children equally? Will the child be like me or his brother or sister? In fact, when the baby arrives, you will definitely love him, because he is already yours, your son or your daughter. Surprisingly, even brothers and sisters who are not completely biologically related become similar to each other and to their parents in the process of living in a family! Children copy everything: behavior, facial expressions, and gestures.
Mila says that she loves Lisa and Stepan equally, but a little differently: “they are two different people, two personalities, both are very interesting - we are glad that we get to know them both better every day.”
Who looks like whom?
Styopa looks like both parents. Lisa looks like Ivan. And Lisa’s parents describe her character as “fireworks!” They understand that Lisa did not inherit her temper from them. Mila says that she would be interested in asking the egg donor if she was like this as a child?
Mila works as a speech therapist and, of course, tries to help her children develop speech. She says that Lisa is incredibly sociable, her speech apparatus is surprisingly well developed already at the age of one. “She also likes the beach as much as we do,” says Mila. She inherits many other skills, habits and abilities that parents purposefully bring into their daughter’s upbringing. This is no different from how biological children develop and how the family's lifestyle shapes their personality.
Magic Children
When Mila's mom calls to ask about her grandchildren, she always says: “How are your magical children?” Mila also calls them “little miracles.”
She often tells her husband, mother and friends that sometimes she still doesn’t believe that with such a serious heart problem as she has, their family has two wonderful children. “It took the participation of many people for our happiness. I am so grateful that there are these people: doctors, donors and surrogate mothers who are ready to help others have a family.”
Very touching story, right? Imagine, the egg donor, thanks to which Lisa was born, will forever be in the hearts of these people, because she gave them happiness! Would you like to be the one who will help the baby be born?
